Eastern District Councillor’s Message
Fall 2007
The 69th Educational Program and
Annual Meeting of American Medical Technologists was held at the
Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, FL, on July 9-14, 2007. I hope that
you were able to attend! For those who couldn’t make it, it was
a week of educational sessions, networking with colleagues,
getting together with old friends, making new friends, and lots
of fun! The Eastern District meeting was held on July 13, with
twenty attendees and all six Eastern District State Societies
represented. It was great to share news with each other and
acknowledge that many of us share the same problems. I would
like to again congratulate the 2006 Honor Roll State Societies
and the National Award winners – I hope that all of the Eastern
District states can make the Honor Roll for 2007!
Kathy Cilia is the new Marketing Director
for AMT. Kathy is a Medical Technologist with a Masters in
Business. She will be a great help to the organization and to
the membership.
AMT is moving forward with electronic
publications in the state societies. Two states have been
approved to test electronic publications in addition to
mailing their publications – North Carolina emailed their Spring
publication, and New Mexico will post their Fall publication on
their website. Data will be gathered from these two states’
members to see how many of them actually received /viewed the
electronic publications. There are a lot of questions and
problems yet to be worked out, and I will keep you updated as
decisions are made.
National Medical Assistants Week is October
15-19, 2007. The slogan this year is, “Medical Assistants - The
Heartbeat of Healthcare”. Congratulations to all the hard
working MAs who administer healthcare to our patients.
New National officers for 2008 are:
Charles Baker, President
Paul Brown, Vice President
Roxann Clifton, Secretary
Nancy Barrow, Treasurer
Clara Boykin was appointed as Central Lakes
District Councillor to fill the vacancy left when Darlene
Sangregario stepped down last year. Edna Anderson, longtime
Western District Councillor, will be stepping down this year and
will be sorely missed by the Council. A new Western District
Councillor will be appointed to take Edna’s place at the Board
Meeting in October.
Upcoming meetings:
DC/Delaware/Maryland – October 13, 2007 –
Dover, DE
Maine/New Hampshire – October 17-19, 2007 –
Portland, ME
West Virginia – October 18, 19, 2007 –

New Jersey – October 20, 2007 – Hackensack,
NJ
New York – October 20, 2007 – Queens, NY
Pennsylvania – April/May, 2008 – Valley
Forge, PA
Also, plan now to attend the 2008 AMT
National Meeting July 7-12, 2008 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Travel costs should be minimal to the states here in the Eastern
District, so mark your calendars!
In closing, I would like to thank you for
allowing me to serve as your District Councillor. It is an
honor and a privilege to work with your state leaders. Please
support them in their efforts to keep the state societies active
and growing. Feel free to contact me if I can be of service to
you.
Sincerely,
Janet Crigler
